YOU'RE IT.
In a small, busy hospital with no Registrars – we look to our House Officers to step up.
Now, some might find this a little intimidating, but for certain House Officers, SCDHB is the perfect place to be. It might be because of the natural wonders on our doorstep, in being so centrally located almost literally “within a stones throw” of sea, mountains, lakes, rivers and bushland, or because we're a small organisation where what you do actually counts in real terms, or it might be the supportive management and the tight-knit ‘family feeling' that exists between our house officers. Whatever the reason, whether they stay on and set up their lives in South Canterbury, or spread their wings elsewhere, they always look back on their time here with tremendous fondness. Don't believe us? Then simply talk with almost any RMO who has worked here in the past, our reputation as a good Hospital to work in has spread far and wide.
So, if you love the great outdoors (and believe us when we say that they are great), and you want to kick your career off in a place where it's all about living, learning, and building a sound portfolio of clinical experience that in many ways can exceed what your colleagues would experience in a larger centre, take a very close look at South Canterbury District Health Board.
WHY SOUTH CANTERBURY?
Because this is how life is supposed to be lived. When you're at work, you work hard, alongside like-minded people who pull together, support each other and do a great job for the people of South Canterbury. Then when your working day is done, there's a wonderful world right on your doorstep. You name it – if it happens outdoors, you can do it in South Canterbury – hiking, biking, flying, sailing, sky-diving, white water rafting, fishing, skiing, kayaking, mountaineering, rock-climbing – not to mention golf, tennis, squash, gym...
Timaru is a large coastal town with a comfortable climate (winter temperatures range between -3° to 15° Celsius, and summer between 8° to 25° C and occasionally rise above 30°C.)
Often referred to as ‘The Riviera of the South' Timaru has a great range of pubs/bars, cafes, award winning restaurants, good entertainment venues, and a nationally recognised Art Gallery with regular touring exhibits. Remember, if you really need to get a dose of bigger city life, Christchurch is only a couple of hours' drive north. We're not saying that South Canterbury is for everyone, but everyone that comes down here and spends some time often leaves a little of themselves here.
